Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 27 is National Walk @ Lunch Day – what great inspiration for this week’s Beloved Body Wellness Challenge. I love going on walks with friends for a few reasons. Not only is walking good for your health, walking with others is good for your soul. It provides an opportunity to catch up with someone important to you, an opportunity to give someone your undivided attention, an opportunity for someone to listen and be a friend to you.

Some amazing things have happened to me while walking with pals. In Kansas City, Loose Park was always the walking destination of choice, and it was there that my friend Jill told me she was pregnant with her first child. It was there I told my friend Alex about this new guy I was seeing (Scott!) and accidentally called him (it went to voicemail and thankfully left an indecipherable message) while I was TALKING ABOUT HIM! A freak-out on my part ensued but luckily everything turned out OK. It was there where my walk with Tiffany, Brooke, and Jan on a Saturday in September began my labor process. Hadley was born about 24 hours later.

It’s been awhile since I’ve asked a friend to go walking, so I’m excited for this challenge (see below). I hope you are too!

BELOVED BODY WELLNESS CHALLENGE #2 – Walk the Walk + Talk the Talk 

Challenge: Recruit a friend, family member, or colleague to go for a walk by Sunday night, May 1.

Duration: 30 minutes (or longer if you want)

  • Struggle to find time due to work? Participate in the National Walk @ Lunch Day on April 27 and use your lunch break to walk. Or if you have a meeting with a colleague that doesn’t require use of a computer, take your meeting on the road.
  • If you are out of town or live far away from friends, ask someone in another city to walk the same time as you and talk with them via phone on your walk.
  • If you have a child or a dog, bring them along. The more the merrier!

  1. There’s a 1 mile trail around my office and I often take a break or two throughout the day with co-workers to enjoy the Spring weather. I’ll be sure to take my 1:1 on the road tomorrow, I love that idea!

  2. Doing the Walk At Lunch with coworkers but we only get 15 minutes so I’ll try to squeeze in another later. Great idea!

  3. Woohoo! With family in town, I’ve taken walks with both my dad and his wife over the past few days! Love when I have people to walk with! xo
