Be Kind to One Another (That Includes Yourself)

A quote I love says: 

“Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates:

1. Is it true?
2. Is it necessary?
3. Is it kind?“

Gosh, how different would our world be if we took our words through these gates before we spoke to others? And how different would our personal well-being be if we took thoughts about ourselves through these gates? 

Challenge yourself this week to become more aware of your self-thoughts and take one or two of them through this series of questions. If the answer to one of the questions is no, try to dismiss the thought. Or if the thought is true and necessary but not kind, try to reframe the thought to be constructive and kind so you can learn and grow from it.

I think that when we slam the gate door in the face untrue, unnecessary and unkind self-thoughts and/or find ways to make unkind thoughts constructive, we find ourselves in a much more desirable destination. A place of self-love, grace and growth. 

I want to live in a place of self-love, grace and growth and I bet you do, too. Hopefully, this t-shirt (from the Ellen DeGeneres show!) and this Pinterest-y quote can serve as reminders of how we can get there.
