The marketing/PR side of my brain looks at these signs on my street and thinks, “Clever. Good use of rhyming, and tying something everyone uses - Amazon! - to your product.” But the part of my brain that is focused on my health and well-being looks at these signs and says, “Not helpful. I see what you are doing: trying to make me feel bad so I’m motivated to buy your clothes. Motivated to buy and keep a membership at your gym.” . I’m NOT going to let your message passively seep into my subconscious and quietly fuel my body image struggle. I realize you’re not THE reason for my struggles but you are A reason. I don’t need to experience pain in the gym or workout studio to enjoy a glass of champagne. And my body is ALREADY here! Just the way it is. I’m going to honor what i have today vs. hoping a ripped, toned body of the future magically makes me happy, feel fulfilled and at peace. I’m going to use my body as an instrument to live my life. . If you want to market your clothes or your gym to me, remind me how exercise and movement makes me FEEL good. How exercise helps decrease stress and anxiety. How exercise keeps my body working properly, like a tune-up for a car. How exercise equips me to go on fun adventures like hiking a volcano in Bali. .
