I never thought Iโd have a blog. Yes, I work in PR/marketing and have worked with countless bloggers in the past. But there are already gazillions of blogs out there. Does the world really need one more? And like I told my husband one night at dinner, โI donโt have anything to say.โ
His response: โYou DO have something to say.โ
So, here it is. Iโve always struggled with my body. One of my earliest memories of this struggle was trying on swimsuits as an early teen and hating what I saw โ my boobs (rather lack of them!) and my boyish figure (no hour glass figure for this girl!). Iโm pretty sure my mom endured my tears in the dressing room. The struggle has continued and manifested in various ways as Iโve grown up, but I want it to stop. I want it to stop for myself. I want it to stop so my daughter doesnโt feel the way about her body as Iโve felt about mine. I want it to stop so I can help other people love their bodies for the RIGHT reasons.
We live in a society that teaches us to never be happy with our bodies. I mean, how can we be happy when at the grocery store weโre surrounded by magazines that scream, โThe Surprising Secret to Getting a Booty You Can Instagramโ or โ9 Core Exercises That Get You Closer to Six-pack Abs.โ? We are constantly told our bodies should be aesthetically pleasing and therefore a lot of time, thought and money goes toward that mission. But really, when you die, do you want people to remember you for abs or for your ability to make people laugh?
The goal of this blog is to inspire all of us to love ourย bodies NOT for how they look but for what ourย bodies DO.
The goal of this blog is to inspire all of us to love ourย bodies NOT for how they look but for what ourย bodies DO. Let’sย explore ways to be happy that arenโt tied to the numbers on a scale or on the tag of your jeans.
Weโll:
- Remind ourselves what truly matters; this is going to be a journey, folks. Some days might be easier/better than others. I hope youโll stick with me on my journey and go on a journey of your own.
- Talk about ways to take care of our bodies through exercise (e.g., ย tips on how to squeeze exercise into your busy day) and how thatย exercise will help us do the things in life that make us happy
- Celebrate the things our bodies let us do;ย celebrate the things in life that make us happy
- Practiceย positive self-talk; putย positiveย body-image messages out into the world
Ready? Letโs do this.
